Net holiday
Net holiday means that holiday days are recalculated for employees with intermittent working hours. Instead of deducting one day for each weekday (gross holiday), days are only deducted on the days the employee would actually have worked.
For example, an employee who works three days a week gets fewer holiday days in total, but each day is worth more. The days therefore cover the same number of weeks off as for a full-time employee.
For employees with irregular working hours, only register holiday on days they would have worked, and not as one continuous period. Since there’s no scheduled working hours, it’s otherwise not possible to determine which days are working days, and too many holiday days might be deducted.
Net holiday can be used for employees with intermittent working hours who have holiday terms 10, 20 or 21.
Here’s how to calculate holiday as net days.
- Select Settings - Payroll settings.
For companies created in Payroll after 5 May 2026, net holiday is already enabled. You can go straight to step 5 in the instructions.
- Select the Holiday tab.
- Select Net holiday under Select calculation method for intermittent employees.
- Select Save.
- Select Work schedule tab.
- Select the full-time schedule that part-time schedules for intermittent employees are based on.
- Check that the correct number of days is entered under The company's regular number of working days per week (full-time). By default, 5 days are entered.
Holiday is now calculated in net days for all employees with intermittent working hours.
On the Holiday tab, you can see the balance of paid and saved net days. For employees with holiday terms 10, you’ll also see the net value of the holiday pay per day.
